The House of Creed unveils the preciousness of The Amber Universe, spotlighting three of its most treasured ingredients. Read on to learn more, from Centaurus’s celebrated sandalwood and Delphinus’s opulent orris to the rich Bourbon vanilla at the base of both creations.

Sandalwood: King Of Woods

Nestled into the heart of Centaurus is sandalwood, a celebrated note that lends a lingering velvety voluptuousness to any fragrance. Hailed the ‘King of Woods’, it has become one of the most sought-after perfume ingredients in the world, with a small sandalwood tree now commanding up to $15,000 or more.

Cherished throughout history for its calming nature and perceived spiritual properties, sandalwood is cultivated by The House of Creed’s partners on Sri Lankan plantations that follow ethical practices to preserve the ingredient for future generations. Here, the outer layers of the tree are delicately removed, unveiling the dense heartwood that contains the precious oil. A meticulous process of distillation soon follows lasting up to 36 hours and leaving behind a high-quality oil with a rounded, creamy, woody aroma that endures.

This exquisite ingredient lends a grounding, earthy presence to Centaurus that balances the bold, bright blaze of beaming opening notes and the enveloping vanilla at its base.

Discover Centaurus

"Anchoring the base of both Centaurus and Delphinus is Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar or ‘Black Gold’, a note prized by perfumers for its aromatic richness."

Orris: ‘Blue Gold’

Delphinus sparkles with orris at its heart, an opulent treasure that transcends the ordinary and radiates a mystic glow. Known as ‘L’Or Bleu’, or ‘Blue Gold’, this is one of the most valuable ingredients in perfumery, fetching up to $100,000 or more per kilogram, for its unique scent profile and complex cultivation method.

Orris exudes a floral, woody and powdery essence that is truly unmatched. Derived from the root of the iris plant, it is grown underground for over three years, before being collected, cleaned, and dried for a further three years—and this is all before the extraction process can even begin. This stellar ingredient glimmers like precious stardust within Delphinus alongside a celestial symphony of warming spices, rich florals and sumptuous swirls of vanilla, collectively conjuring a spellbinding, starlit sky.

Bourbon Vanilla: ‘Black Gold’

Anchoring the base of both Centaurus and Delphinus is Bourbon vanilla from Madagascar or ‘Black Gold’, a note so prized by perfumers for its aromatic richness that it can command prices of $3,000 or more per kilogram.

The craft of cultivating coveted Bourbon vanilla spans some eighteen months from pollination to final extraction. It begins with the hand-pollination of Vanilla planifolia orchids, which mature over several months, before entering a six-month artisanal drying journey that ends with their extraction. The process is labour-intensive but this is what sets Bourbon vanilla apart, bestowing the note with its distinctive depth and characteristic creamy sweetness. This sought-after ingredient adds a lasting leathery sensuality to the base of both creations within The Amber Universe, mirroring the everlasting glimmer of distant stars.

Centaurus And Delphinus: ‘Millésime’ Creations

Each of these exquisite star-powered ingredients plays its part in establishing Centaurus and Delphinus as Eau de Parfums of ‘Millésime’ quality, or great vintage perfumes.

In much the same way that a vintage wine refers to a year and place from which the quality of wine was exceptional, a ‘Millésime’ creation from The House of Creed blends the finest raw materials, mostly by hand, in a small artisanal factory near Fontainebleau in France. These meticulous, age-old techniques underpin each fragrance’s longevity, meaning it is destined to leave a lasting impression that is out of this world.
